Blood water colours

A sextet of small morphology studies painted with my own blood.

In preparation of my installations, performances or costumes, I often realize small sketches that I occasionally paint, mostly monochrome. It’s meant to be quick studies of movements, shapes, and articulations. The practice helps me visualise the artworks than I am preparing, or take notes for future projects.

For Blood watercolours (2024) I employed the classical tecnique of watercolour, but instead than using pigment I used my own blood. For the purpose I used the blood samples leftover after Hlymia, a project that involved the isolation and analysis of my T-cells.

What emerges is a sexted of ambiguous shapes that bulge and delicately float on the paper surface. Over a few months, blood lost the typical red colour for a browninsh hue due to the oxidation of iron in the hemoglobine molecule.
